The Waterhouse Restaurant — Located along side the Regent's Canal you have water views from most tables but also of the graffiti on buildings opposite and lots of 'London life" wondering past. The menu strongly focuses on seasonal products and ethical farming , carbon prints here. Set menus include smoked mackerel or home-cured duck breast salad, followed by loin of pork. The restaurant is owned by the Shoreditch Trust (a community led organisation promoting renewal energy programs) and was built with numerous environmentally friendly devices which you can read about at their site. I've not dined here and the critics have not been too kind but if you're looking to try something very 'environmentally sound' this is one pioneering restaurants in different restaurant practices.

Ladbroke Arms — This is one great pub you won't find unless someone has told you about it. Down a little alley, is where locals head for a pint and perhaps a dinner of sea bass and baked potatoes. Its got that 'real' pub feel. Have your meal brought to the bar to accompany your real ale, if you're alone.

One-0-one - a fine London fish cafe — I have read and heard so much about this Fish cafe, I can't wait to go. It has been awarded best wine menu, best fish restaurant and at £19 for three 'petit' plates that's not bad. But I believe they are really small portions. Oh well, there's always menu 'a la carte', Wild Seabass cooked in Basil Oil and Artichokes and Olive Tapendade or Brittany Blue Lobstr, Saffron Carrot and a few other delicacies.

Sweetings - Fish and Chips since 1889 — This venue is very much the old school, serving up big portions of fried, poached, or grilled fish, potted shrimp, oysters followed by spotted dick or bread-and-butter puddings. This is not your 'style' council place but a piece of history. Eat at the counter or tables Allow £31 for three courses.
